Show Choir Logo

I joined my school's show choir this year, and when the call went out for a new logo design for their apparel, I naturally decided to submit my ideas.

The great preliminary sketches you see above are basically all I sketched down before moving to the computer and making concepts on Photoshop. I ended up with two designs, since after completing the second one I was too lazy to try out more combinations. The first one I made in five minutes, while the second one took a good hour or hour and half.

To my pleasant surprise, my design actually won with the most amount of votes.Which means the 30 or so people in show choir will eventually all be wearing a logo that I designed. I'm quite pleased with myself.

An Introduction to: Sculptris

Sculptris is a free 3D modelling program. The program is based around "sculpting" polygon meshes much like how you'd sculpt clay. Sculptris is a simplified version of zBrush, much like how Photoshop Elements is a watered down version of Photoshop. Although Sculptris may not be as powerful as zBrush, it is much more intuitive and easy to learn. I was able to start sculpting complex models relatively easily and ending pretty much as I'd planned after only and hour or two of experimentation. I mainly focused on sketches I found throughout my sketchbook, especially my creature concept from last summer.

The thing above was my first test/experiment with Sculptris.

The two views above are versions of a frog embryo, late in the stages of development, based off of a drawing I found in a science textbook. I thought it looked cute.

This image is a WIP of a creature concept I developed a while back (see here and here).

This is the culmination of about 5 hours (give or take an hour, time passes quickly when I'm focused) of modelling. The teeth and the teeth took the longest time, and I had a few experiences with mesh glitches along the way, which cost me at least an hour and half to fix.

These textures and colourations were taken from an earlier piece of concept art (see here).

From the front it looks strangely Japanese, the head especially. Reminds me of  the way spirits and monsters look in Japanese culture.

The feet took a surprisingly long time to get right and required a lot of adjusting.
